Home»Industry Trends» The EU has launched a new version of REACH registration review rules.
On May 22, 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a new version of its chemical substance information management software, IUCLID, to meet the new data requirements of the EU REACH regulation. The updated data formats and completeness check rules will better assist companies in verifying compliance with REACH registration requirements.
IUCLID is a software for managing chemical substance information in the EU, helping companies organize and submit their chemical data to ECHA. This update primarily involves the following aspects:
Adaptation to new REACH data requirements: IUCLID has updated data formats and completeness check rules. The new REACH registration completeness review rules will take effect on June 1, 2023.
Expanded format support: Released the first version of the format required by the EU Drinking Water Directive to better assess chemicals present in drinking water.
Updated OECD standard templates: Revised and improved the OECD harmonized templates to align with the latest changes in OECD testing guidelines.
Updated BPR format: IUCLID will support seamless transition from the SPC (Summary of Product Characteristics) editor to IUCLID.
Other new features: Ability to copy comments from one dossier to its updated version and access background jobs to monitor the status of long-running tasks.
As the first major format change since October 2021, this IUCLID update marks a significant milestone for companies manufacturing or importing chemical substances in the EU and for chemical regulatory agencies. The updated IUCLID will provide more comprehensive, accurate, and consistent chemical substance information formats to standardize data submissions, helping companies better meet regulatory requirements.
Customs reminds relevant companies to promptly track EU REACH regulation updates, complete registration work, and strictly implement product testing and certification to mitigate future risks.
